FAQ
-
What is your rate?
My competitive hourly rate has been set to support the highest and best use of your expertise and time. After we discuss your project's scope, deliverables, and timeline, you'll receive an estimate for approval, and I'll handle it from there. If the scope changes partway through, no problem—we can revisit and adjust accordingly.
-
How do you track and bill time?
You'll authorize me for a certain number of hours (for example, 10), and you'll only be billed for actual time spent, which I track in 15-minute increments. In the rare situations where it seems we’ll exceed the approved hours—I can usually gauge this quickly—I’ll proactively inform you. At that point, we can renegotiate hours or adjust the project scope as needed.
-
How will I receive your research results?
Typically, I deliver research findings in a concise reporting email accompanied by direct links and relevant supporting documents attached. However, I'm happy to tailor the report format if you prefer a different approach.
-
What is your usual turnaround time?
Generally, the more lead time you can provide, the better. However, recognizing the unpredictable nature of legal practice, I can often accommodate shorter turnaround requests depending on my current workload—just reach out, and we’ll discuss what's possible.
-
Is there anything required before you begin?
Yes. I have a short, convenient online intake form and a straightforward engagement of services agreement for you to complete. These documents quickly define your requirements, making it easy for me to get started promptly.
-
Who are your typical clients?
I specialize in providing expert legal research support to solo practitioners and lawyers at small to mid-sized firms throughout Alberta and across Canada. If your project requires jurisdiction-specific resources not immediately accessible to me, I'll happily connect you with an appropriate library or librarian who can assist.
-
How do you manage conflicts of interest?
In the rare event of a conflict, I’ll inform you immediately and help by referring you to another trusted professional. I utilize CRM software to conduct accurate and efficient conflict checks.
-
Are you a practicing lawyer?
No, I’m a law librarian with over 20 years of specialized legal research experience. My expertise lies in precise and authoritative research, sourcing relevant case law and statutes, and providing comprehensive supporting materials. I do not draft legal opinions or provide legal advice.
